I am trying to find James and Mary Ann Shoemaker/Shumaker in Virginia around 1790. I believe after their daughter Mary Ann Shoemaker married, the family perhaps went to North Carolina then into Tennesse where Mary Ann died around 1828. Once in Tennessee they passed as whites. Only recently have I found out my gggg grandparents names, thanks to my 96 year old mother who didn't take the family secret to the grave with her. And now the search begins for them, James and Mary Ann Shoemaker/Shumaker.I so want to honor my gggg grandparents, find where they are buried, anything about them would be most welcomed.
