Re: SAMS of St. Landry Parish/St. Martin Parish
In Response To: SAMS of St. Landry Parish/St. Martin Parish ()
It is very possible that the Sam family descends from Pierre Same Estopol Fuselier who the grandson of Gabriel Fuselier de la Claire, who served as the first commandment of the Opleousas and Attakapas Post, and then Gabriel Fuselier de la Claire was the son of Pierre Fuselier de la Claire and his wife, Ludgovine Chauffone, of Lyon, France. Pierre Sam Estopol Fuselier was married to Mistress Masse, who descended from the first slaves that were brought to the Attakapas District by Andre Masse', who was the first white man to enter the Attakpas District. The Masse' family descends from Andre Masse, a Frenchmen from Grenoble, France. The surname of Sam could very well descend from a child of Pierre Sam Estopol Fuselier and his wife, Mistress Masse', and that child or even a grandchild took the surname of Sam instead of Fuselier. The Sam family probably originated in ST. Landry Parish or the Opelousas area.
