Re: FPOC's Longtown, OH Settlement..BASS/COUSINS
In Response To: Re: FPOC's Longtown, OH Settlement ()
Hello Julius, BASS & COUSINS are prominent surnames in the history of the Longtown settlement. You didn't give any time periods for your ancestors so I started with the LDS 1880 CD Census set and searched the State of Ohio. Searched the State for both Black & Mulatto entries. In 1880 there were no Cousins, with various spellings found in the area of Longtown, or Darke County, where Longtown is located. We did find 37 mulatto and 58 Black enteries (Cousins) in other Ohio counties, many in counties surrounding Darke county. Birth dates ranged from 1799 to 1880. BASS and Longtown, a different story in the 1880 Census records. There were 76 mulatto's and 51 black Bass individuals listed in Darke County alone, most all were in German Township (now known as Liberty Township) the location of Longtown. First birthdate for the Darke County Bass surname was 1811 While I didn't find a Zebedee Cousins, the family below may give you a clue in researching your ancestors. 1880 Census Census Place: German, Darke, Ohio Source: FHL Film 1255010 National Archives Film T9-1010 Page 111B Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace
