It is very plausible, Richard, that your Michael received his name from the first Michael Ailstock to keep the name in the family. In my husband's family the middle names of "Lee" and "Louis" are prevalent for both males and females. He's not sure why. Another middle name for males in his family is "Avery". Again, he's not sure why. I am convinced, though, that these three middle names were surnames of certain ancestors of his. Keep digging.
