FYI; taken from Black Soldiers-Chronology of Combat, Recruiting, Units and Veterans page 348. "1836, Goyens, William: For service in the Army of Texas during 1836, the Texas Legislature awards him a tract of land. Born a slave in South Carolina during 1794, he came to Texas in 1821.
