I am reading from a 1863 Belmont County, Ohio "enumeration" of Black and Mulatoes:

"No.105--Prince William County--Mary Payne, a full mulatto woman was this day registered in the office according to [Ohio] law, said Mary Payne 26 years of age, five feet one inch high, was born free in Prince William, County 3 April 1821"

"No.104--Prince William County. This is to certify that Jesse Payne, a free dark mulatto man this day registered in this office according to [Ohio] law, he is about 29 years ago, 5"9" was born in Prince William County 3 April 1821."

I put these two names in this forum in hope that someone will recognize these individuals as family and I am interested to know if there are records in Prince William County which might link them to my great great great grandmother Verlinda PAYNE-GOINS. Finding female ancestors from this era seems like the toughest work of all
