SEWARD Brunswick Cnty NC
I have not posted in a while because no one seems interested in any of the lines I'm researching. I had ran across this document years ago that shows that my Seward ancestors were free prior to 1800. Being a novice, I ran with the information, but fail to document where I found it. At any rate if there are any Sewards, Deed Book 14 (1780-1790)Brunswick County, VA page 499, John Seward of Brunswick county frees, manumits and enfranchises several slaves. He gave their names, ages, date of birth as well as when they are to be freed. It appeared those who were legally grown were freed right away and he provided for the freedom of the young women at 18 and the men at 21. Amy, Violet and Anthony Seward are my ancestors and I was able to find them in the 1840,50 and 60 census of Mecklenburg County, Va with the Seward name. They later moved to Warren County, NC.
