I told her I was a Betts from Virginia, and she was thankful to meet me, for she had also come from Betts in Virginia from slavery times. She was the first one to tell me about sussex county and how the slaves were freed after the death of a slaveowner. Some migrated to Ohio, and some stayed in virginia.
