I have noticed that from 2001 through 2006 there were several postings on this message board about Charles Maran and Euphemie Lemelle. I am a direct descendant of their youngest son, Joseph Cleophus Marant. I am looking for information on the family of origin of Charles and his sister, Juliette. The 1850 LA census shows Charles' birth place as Ste. Domingue (Haiti). Also, I would be interested in what happened to Euphemie after 1865. I have found marriage records of two of the children in addition to that of my ggrandfather, Joseph Cleophus. I am also trying to determine the burial place of both Charles and Euphemie. I was interested and happy to see that others appear to know of Juliette's treacherous actions against her brother's family after his death and of Euphemie's courageous struggle to win freedom for herself and her children. Hope some of the people contributing info about this family to this forum are still out there.
