just checked out the Tim Hashaw book "The Birth of Black America: The First African Americans and the pursuit of Freedom at Jamestown". Couldnt put it down. It was VERY interesting. It adds to the complexity of black history and how that all black people werent slaves. Even as early as the 17th century. The author, who is white, is a descendent of some of these Jamestown Africans. The families and the descendents of some of them fought in the American Revolution and even helped fugitive slaves. I thought that was cool. I recommend it to anyone.
