Re: Info on John B Dawson VA IL ?
In Response To: Info on John B Dawson VA IL ? ()
I am the descendant of the John B. Dawson/Julia Ann Coleman union AND Frank R. Dawson/Alice Dulf union (Frank being the son to John and Julia) - ultimately I am the descendant of the Arhtur Willis/Katherine Dawson union - Katherine being my great grandmother whom I knew.
I believe you have already spoken to a cousin of mine Mabel Roberts. Over the past year most of my research has been the Dulf family. I live in Springfield, Il and have found Parthenia and William Dulf (the parents of Frederick Dulf) buried here in Oak Ridge cemetery.
I have pictures of Parthenia, some of her daughters and Frederick. I am assuming Frederick was Bartley's brother-n-law? But wouldn't he have also been the brother-n-law to one of John B. Dawson's son's? I haven't quite figured out who that could be yet.. perhaps William Dawson (or whose full name is Charles William Thomas Coleman Dawson!).
The Dulfs were very light skinned and some looked as if they could pass. Parthenia was a very dark woman with American Indian Heritage, so we have the dilema of trying to find our caucasian relatives from the Dulf side!
Regarding the Dawson family, I have a picture of John B. Dawson (and yes he is mulatto/African American). I also have documents of his will, and a page torn from a Bible listing his family. His facther's name is Richard Dawson, he may have been caucasian, and the only informatiopn I have about Richard's wife is that she was born in Wellsburg, VA. John B. Dawson owned several acres of land in Chicago. Prime property that from what I hear had to be sold for municpality reasons.
Please contact me when you have a moment. I have spent practically all afternoon trying to find Bartley Dawson's parents to prove or disprove the rumor I heard. Also, there is some story about Frederick Dulf being your ancestor also, killing himself and your ancestor Mary Dawson? I am also still having difficulty showing who Mary was married to in the John B. Dawson family (I believe Charles William?).
