I am looking for information regarding the Tyree family-- in most of my records, this surname is spelled "Tyre." They were free people of color and seem to have been numerous in Virginia (where my family is from). They moved from place to place, I'm sure as a result of changing laws concerning free blacks over the years. My Tyree family is from Madison, VA and the Orange Co., VA area, however, after 1850 most of them (I think) moved to Ohio.
I do not know a lot about them, yet I keep finding names. I don't know the connections, and hope to find this information. My gggg grandfather was Fountain Tyre *Tyree, born free in 1833. After 1850, he disappears, he may have died. I believe that his family included the following names, Frances (Fanny) Tyree (1785), James Tyre (1812), Eliza, Mary, Archibald, Albert, Quintus/Quinten, Robert, Eliza, Whitfield, Wesley, and John but I do not know how they are connected. My grandfather Fountain had two children, my ggg grandmother Elizabeth "Lizzie' Tyree-Walden (1852) and Delila "Lila" Tyree-Jackson (1853).
