Some were wondering if the Augusta County tax list would give a clue to the age of the members of the Nickens family that went to Ohio. Here's the data for 1782-1795 (LVA Personal Property Tax List):
1791 B, 2nd District
frame 387, Moses Nicken 1 tithe
1792 B, nothing
1793 B,
Nickens, Moses (Blackman) 1 tithe, 1 horse
Nicken, Abraham ditto 1 tithe
1794 B
frame 499,
Nicken, Abraham (Blackman) 1 tithe
Nicken, Jacob ditto 1 tithe
Nicken Isaac ditto 1 tithe
Nicken, Moses ditto 1 tithe, 1 horse
1795 B
frame 539
Nickin, Isaac B. man 1 tithe
Nickin, Moses B. man 1 tithe, 1 horse
Nickin, Edward B. man 1 tithe, 1 horse
Nickin, Lamick B man 1 tithe, 1 horse
Nickin, Jacob B man 1 tithe
Nickin, Abraham B man 1 tithe, 1 horse
Sometimes you can make the assumption that a person was added to the tithe list as he reached the age of 16. But in this case some members of the Nickens family may have been added to the tithe list as they moved to the county from Lancaster/ Northumberland counties.
