ID: I079
Name: John RABB 1
Sex: M
Title: Jr
Birth: 1 AUG 1803 in Adam County, MS
Death: 31 MAY 1856 in Helena, Phillips County, AR
Note:

John Rabb Jr. and Harriet A. Folkes were married in May 18, 1834 in Warren County MS. John Rabb Jr's. first wife was Sallie Coery were Married in Adams Co. MS. She died in 1828 Oct 8 leaving one child Sarah Elizabeth Rabb born 30th of Sept 1828.

Following is a letter sent by John to his brother in 1853:

My dear brother,
Your last letter received some time ago and should have been several
days ago but my health has not been good. I have not been right well
for 2 or 3 months. My family is all well at present. Hope this finds
you and yours all fine.

I am now living 8 miles below Helena Arkansas side. I moved the
middle of April. I have a very pretty place on the bank of the river
opposite the delta and nothing on earth would give me more pleasure than for you and your family to visit me this summer. Adeline is going to school in Memphis she will be home after the last of June when she graduates. I have a very bad stand of cotton. I don't think there is a chance of getting a stand this year. I have been planting a month now looks very well indeed, some of it has six leaves and growing fine, my corn crop looks very well indeed about knee high. The river is rising very high some prospects for an overflow. My place is protected by a levee and if the levee breaks I can't be injured. My front has no levee but still have a 4ft bank. It can't rise that much more if it does woe unto those below me. There wont be an acre of dry land in this country. Land is increasing in value each day. I can get twenty five dollars an acre for it now and only paid eleven for it two years ago. There is a place in the neighborhood for sale belonging to a man in Texas. He is dissatisfied with it for some cause or other. I heard from all relations lately, write soon and give me all the news.
As ever, your brother, John Rabb

A letter written by John Rabb of Helena to his brother William Rabb,
Original Post Office Zeiglerville Miss. Post Office now Benton Miss.

In Maple Hill Cemetery in Helena AR there is a monument to Colonel John Rabb Jr. Bart Rabb Lindsey of Helena, says the title is not from the military ,but honorary. He also explained that John Rabb is not buried there but in the family plot on the Rabb plantation south of Helena on the Mississippi River.

We found the family plot in 1994 just on the river side of the levee.
