I saw the family tree of the late comedian Richard Pryor and noticed something about his history. He has deep Illinois roots going all of the way into the 1840s. One of his ancestors was a man by the name of William Carter. He lived in Macon County. He was listed as an 11-year-old mulatto in 1860 in Macon living in the household of Richard Stewart, also a mulatto, born in Alabama. I wonder if anyone knows anything about any free Stewarts and Carters that moved to the free state of Illinois.
