Hi Hollis. For my own purposes I was thinking of starting in 1782 and working my way forward to about 1820. For all of Virginia that would be quite an undertaking. I would include all forms of emancipation: deeds, wills, etc. Goochland has both deeds and wills in the same reels, so that makes it a little easier. But if there are others interested we could easily continue the undertaking to a later date. I have heard that most of the emancipations took place in the early years but have no evidence for this.

It sounds like there is some interest, so we should approach the managers of this site to see if we can establish a database available to all. If there is any difficulty in this, I have unlimited space on my site and would volunteer to post all research on it.
