Re: Solomon Bruce and Barney Redman

Hi Marlene :)

Thank you for your reply.

> I have what I think can prove that Solomon Bruce from Hardy County
> is the same Solomon Bruce who settled in Greene County

As I said before, I totally AGREE with this statement.
Documentation prooves that Solomon BRUCE was a VanMETER slave in VA,Hardy-Co. He married Jane FISHER & moved to PA,Greene-Co.

What I have NOT seen is any sources that that proove THIS same
Solomon BRUCE is the father of Andrew Jackson BRUCE-REDMAN !

Your comments seem like you found "a" Solomon BRUCE
as the father of Andrew Jackson BRUCE-REDMAN & then
worked backward trying to link him to his parents.

I researched Solomon BRUCE in the other direction.
I first found his mother Sarah & then followed all her children forward.

In my genealogy research I have found many people with the exact
same names living in the same area (sometimes relatives) ...
so this has made me cautious.

Because we are talking about a slave family,
we don't know if the BRUCE surname is inherited or assumed. There
could have been other unrelated slaves who adopted the same surname.

I agree that Andrew Jackson BRUCE-REDMAN had a father named
Solomon BRUCE ... but I am still searching for ANY proof
that HIS Solomon BRUCE was the VanMETER slave.

Do you know anything about the parentage of Elenor=Ellen=Nellie LETT ?
Can we place her as having contact with the VanMETER slaves ?

> Barney Redman married a Stacey Lett. This is too much of a coincidence;
> the Lett surname, that is, for it not to be Nellie.

I do not think this assumption is correct because of dates.

1823/09/04 Barnet REDMAN m=Stacy LETT=LETE
1822-1830 = children born to Elenor=Ellen=Nellie LETT & Solomon BRUCE
1836-1847 = children born to Elenor=Ellen=Nellie LETT & Barnet REDMAN
1840-1854 = children born to Solomon BRUCE & Jane FISHER

So perhaps now you can understand better, why I am cautious about
just "assuming" that the father of Andrew Jackson BRUCE-REDMAN
was "the" VanMETER slave.

Thanks for discussing & sharing info
as we try to solve this genealogical puzzle :)
