I have what I think can prove that Solomon Bruce from Hardy County is the same Solomon Bruce who settled in Greene County. Andrew Jackson Bruce served the 6th Regiment of the U. S. C. T. When he died his second wife filed for his pension. Numerous persons testified on her behalf. The following document appears in his pension file:

B. N. Freeland, Clerk of the Orphans Court--of Greene County, Penna. do hereby certify that--the records of said court as found in Docket No. 1, page 7 of the Death Record, show the following:
Andrew Bruce--colored--Male--age 63--Father's name Solomon Bruce--Mother's name, Ellen Redmond--Married--Place of Birth--Hardy Co. Va.--Occupation--Laborer--Date of Death Mch 4th, 1893--Place of Death, Waynesburg, Richhill Street--Cause of Death--Heart Disease--During of last sickness--one year--Place of Interment--Greene Mt. Cemetery--Date of Interment--Mch 6th 1893.
On witness where of & have hereunto-set my hand and placed the seal of said court this 14th day of Sept-1897.

As for divorces, most back then just took another partner and never got a divorce. Some even remarried without their husbands or wives dying for them to legally do so. Furthermore, Bruce family information has always stated that Solomon was from Hardy Co. In addition, Mary Louisa, his daughter, states that she was from Hardy Co., Va. Her mother Jane, was either very fair or white. The local papers state that when she had children, one of them was so light that they could pass. The Fisher family in Washington, Penna. could be relatives. They are very fair.

Solomon may have relocated to Greene County knowing that other relatives, the Clifford and Redmond/Redman families were already living there.
