I remember reading this interesting list of petitions about many free people of color who wanted to stay in Texas despite the laws of the state restricting there migration into the state. I noticted how several free people of color recieved the help of many white residents who vouched for their character and industry, etc... I even found a references to a few free blacks who were soliders during the Texas revolution against Mexico. I found that interesting because I didnt know black people served in that capacity during the Texas Revolution in the 1840s.
