Have been reading messages at this forum about WILLIAMS, SAMPSON, CHESNUTT, etc. My great-grandmother, Carrie Williams Clifford, wrote a note about the connection between Charles Chesnutt and Carrie's father, Joshua Williams (1832 - 1885), in which she referred to Chloe Sampson as "Aunt Cort". Perhaps Lewis's wife, Sophia, was a Sampson.

Still trying to verify the relationships among the female Sampsons that supposedly connect Chesnutt and Langtson Hughes. Has this been verified?

Has the connection to Henry Sampson (found in Burnt Swamp, Robeson County, NC in 1850) to Colonel John Sampson been verified? Have received a "tree" that states this connection.
