I'm looking to find out more info about John Chavis who was listed as a free mulatto on the 1792 Opelousas, Louisiana census.He is also listed as living in Attakapas Parish(st. martin) in 1810 as John Cheves with "3 other free persons". I believe he might of came to Louisiana from North Carolina based on catholic records.
