Re: Rickman
In Response To: Re: Rickman ()

SRB, Jacky:

First this FYI. I believe Jacky is aware of this. There is a settlement in Mercer County, Ohio called Carthagena. Two of the prominent surnames/families in this settlement are RICKMAN and BANKS.

====================================================================
The Gowans I have on my tree is a Nancy Gowans born 1814 NC and married to Fountain Lyles in 1839 in Rockingham County, NC. They were in Shebly/Ripley county, Indiana by 1850.
====================================================================

Fountain and Nancy GOINGS LYLE have a son Nathaniel who married Averta Cynthialirelda RICKMAN.

====================================================================
Henry Rickman born NC and his wife Celia- born VA lived next door to Fountain Lyles. There kids were Sarah, William, John, Polly, Eli, Fielding, Nancy, Averta.
====================================================================

Celia is Celia GOINGS.

====================================================================
There were quite a few Gowan's in Ripley County 1850 Census.

The main Rickmans I have on my tree were interesting enough not the above listed Rickmans- that I know of (I have not researched this yet). The Rickmans of Kansas were my grandmothers 1st cousins- and married into my Banks family in 1884 in Kansas. I only recently noticed that the Kansas Rickmans (From Tennessee) could possibly be related to the Rickmans of Indiana- when I started researching migration patterns and settlements of my Banks family.

====================================================================

I sent this out to my RICKMAN contacts sometime ago.
Note: Since that time Jacky along with help from Rick COTMAN have "connected" two of the "groups" listed below.

For my benefit I divide the RICKMAN family into the following
categories and am trying to find if they are the same family. I
believe that they are.

1) The Dresden/Chatham, Ontario, Canada RICKMAN family. Earliest
known ancestors, German/Jarman Alfred RICKMAN and Louisa BOGART
and Elizabeth SCOTT and Nancy Emmeline SCOTT(actually the
earliest would be Dillon & Margaret RICKMAN)

2) The Highland County/Carthagena, Mercer County RICKMAN family.
Earliest known ancestors, William and Nancy KENDALL RICKMAN.

3) The Calvin Center, Cass County, Michigan RICKMAN family.
Earliest known ancestors, Uriah & Sarah DUNGEE/DUNGY RICKMAN.

4) The Greenville Settlement, Darke County, Ohio RICKMAN family.
Earliest known ancestors, Abner & Telitha ELAM RICKMAN.

5) The Southern/Southeastern Indiana RICKMAN family.
Earliest known ancestors, Nicholas RICKMAN.

The common thread among these RICKMAN families is Tennessee.
There are other circumstantial things that point to these families
being the same RICKMAN family. The earliest ancestor of the Michigan
group is Uriah, however the name Uriah is found many times among the
Highland County/Mercer County Ohio groups. The earliest ancestor of the Darke County, Ohio group is Abner, the name Abner is found many times among the Highland County, Ohio group. etc. etc. etc.
