This message is posted for an individual I corresponded with at the DAR.

We discussed Benjamin Ruff in April 2005. I sent some documents regarding
his service in the Rev War. This past week I have obtained some additional
documents. It has taken me 2 years to get a copy of these records. Benjamin's
children were bound out in 1780 & 1789. I do have some reservations on the
fatherhood of the two children bound out in 1789 since Benjamin died in
1779. I have not found any record for one other child that I know was born in
1774.
The two children bound out in 1780 were 4 & 6 years old. On the document
regarding Suckey Ruff age four it states: Humbly request you bind my daughter
Suckey Ruff about four years old to Poley Ewing & no other as by hir & I &
family has obtained considerable support since my husband's death in the army
and your petition shall ever pray, Sarah X Ruff mulatto, Teste John Ewing.
September 1780
I am still of the belief that one Thomas Ruff that died at Valley Forge
between Jan 1779 & April 1779 is in fact Benjamin Ruff or more likely Thomas
Benjamin Ruff.
Since our last correspondence I did not know if you successfully added
Benjamin Ruff to the DAR records. I do not know if Thomas Ruff is on record
either. The military records for Thomas show he first enlisted in 1777. A break
down of his service is as follows:

I am not certain where Benjamin Ruff came from but I am currently looking at
the Lancaster PA area. I will also be searching out more info on the Ewing
family records and two other men named Nathan & Alex Reid.
Your thoughts on this are appreciated.
Sincerely,
Joyce
