Re: Redman UGRR connections
In Response To: Re: Redman UGRR connections
() Nicole, I agree with you on your views of the Solomon Bruce and Barnet Redman situation. However, I think it is also entirely possible that there were two different Ellen/Elenor/Nellie or even two Solomon Bruces and two Nellie for that matter. We just don't have enough information yet. Be careful about obituaries, I've seen too many mistakes in obituaries to depend upon them as a reliable source. I have a copy of Bransom and Davison. They don't use words such as "possibly" or "maybe" when they talk about Nellie as the wife of Solomon Bruce and Barnet Redman - their sources aren't cited. They attribute all of Solomon Bruce's and Barnet Redman's children to Nellie. This publication is the only place I've ever seen anything about this until your posts to this message board. The Clifford issue you refer to is also a complicated one. I've heard the family story about Jacob being Isaac Clifford's father. But there is another family story that Isaac Clifford born about 1824's father was Isaac. At this point, I don't have any evidence to support either story, or to rule out the other brothers. I had not heard of Sarah Jane Turney as another wife for Isaac Clifford. Were there children from this marriage? I was disappointed to see that the citations for the Vanmeter estate papers lost formatting when posted. I apologize that it is so difficult to read. Leading spaces were put in the lines, but they seem to have been lost, and double spacing was added.... What is the trick to formatting when posting to this list? Jane
