Re: Redman UGRR connections
In Response To: Re: Redman UGRR connections ()

Hi Jane :)

>> The Solomon Bruce who was freed by Abraham Vanmeter in Hardy Co.
>> I can give you the citations for the wills and estate papers if you need them.

> Yes please, I would appreciate that info.

I am familiar with the VanMETER slaves but have only read other people's interpretations of the material.
When you offered to provide "citations for the wills and estate papers" I thought you meant to
share the actual book & page numbers, so that I could look up the info first hand ???

> I've only ever seen one Solomon Bruce in the Hardy Co. records.

I have no disagreement with that as I don't know where the 2nd Solomon BRUCE was from.

---

> Thinking along the lines of Andrew Jackson Bruce also using the surname of Redman

Andrew Jackson BRUCE was the son of "a" Solomon BRUCE.
When A.J. is still a child, his mother remarries to Barnet REDMAN.
And so sometimes (like in the census) he is called by his step-father's name of REDMAN.

> death record stated that his father was Solomon Bruce and his mother Ellen Redman.

Yes his parents are Solomon BRUCE &
Eleanor=Ellen=Nellie (LETT) (BRUCE) REDMAN.

Ellen & Nellie are nicknames for the given name of Eleanor.
She was born a LETT, married a BRUCE, then remarried to a REDMAN.

> This evidence tells me that Jane may have been Solomon Bruce's second wife,

You are making the mistake of assuming that just because the name is the same,
that they refer to the same person.
The info from the census & obituaries I mentioned, show NO indication that this is the case.
I will stand by my interpretation that there are 2 people involved, who are both named
Solomon BRUCE, until I see clear evidence that they are one & the same person.

> but I think I remember you were asking if Jacob was the father of Isaac Clifford

No that was not my question. Here it is again.

I know about the following Jacob CLIFFORDs who were FPOC.

One CLIFFORD line goes like this ...

.1 Jacob CLIFFORD, Sr. m=Mary LETT=LOTT
..2 Jacob CLIFFORD, Jr. n=abt.1844 PA

Another CLIFFORD line goes like this ...

.1 Isaac CLIFFORD, Sr. m=1796 Judy=Julia LEWIS
..2 Jacob CLIFFORD m=1823 Sally SMITH
...3 Isaac CLIFFORD n=abt.1824 (married 4 times - KENT, LOWRY, TURNEY & REDMAN)
....4 Jacob CLIFFORD n=1860 d=1929

I was asking you whether or not you might know if any of these Jacobs
are in fact the same person who had multiple marriages.
Or whether all of the Jacob CLIFFORDs were completely different individuals.
You might not know but I was just checking in case you did :)
I am trying to sort them out.

> John Redman, the Rev War pensioner of Hardy Co., was married to Sarah Days.
> This is explained in his pension file in the M804 microfilm series at NARA.
> The pension file only names Nimrod as his only son,

That is the same info as I already have.
I am trying to take this John REDMAN's line further into the future.
I have read that you have connected a Professor GATES to this John REDMAN.
This implies that you know more descendants.
So what I am asking for is for you to share any & all REDMAN descendants
that take the John REDMAN line through to GATES.

> From the personal property tax lists of Hardy Co., the other children are Lucy, Moses, Reuben, Rachel.

I would just like to clarify this statement to make sure I am not misunderstanding.
Are you saying that all these names are proven children of John REDMAN & Sarah DAYS ?
I would like to verify this info as I thought the tax lists only showed adults & not children ?

Have these tax lists been transcribed & available anywhere ?
I would like to see which children are with which parents :)

Thanks for any help with these vexing problems :)
