Hi Jane
> The only place I have found where it mentions that Barnet Redman married
> Solomon Bruce's wife "Nellie" is in: M. Bransom and W.A. Davison.
> "Early African American Life in Waynesburg Greene County, Pennsylvania".
> Indiana, PA: A.G. Halldin Publishing Co., Inc. 2002, pg. 29
> Note that Bransom and Davison say Barnet Redman married Solomon Bruce's wife.
> And they state that Solomon Bruce was married to Eleanor "Ellen or Nellie" Lett
> when he moved from Hardy to Greene Co.
Well then, I respectfully disagree with them
> It's looking to me like there were two Nellie,
> one the wife of Solomon Bruce and one the wife of Barnet Redman.
No I don't think so ... as I said before my interpretation
is that there are 2 different Solomon BRUCE.
Andrew Jackson BRUCE=BRUSE (son of Solomon BRUCE & Nellie=Elenor=Ellen LETT)
was sometimes called Andrew Jackson REDMAN which indicates his mother's
2nd marriage to Barnet REDMAN=REDMOND, Sr.
Here are the census records where you can see that the children define the family group.

> mentioned that an Andrew Jackson Bruce's death certificate says his mother's name was Nellie.
> Can you tell me where this death certificate is filed? I'd love to obtain a copy of it for my files.
I found this info quite a number of years ago & my method of recording things has improved since then.
My notes show that back then I wrote:
1893/05/04 PA,Greene-Co Death Register: "007 01 BRUSE, Andrew - colored male @69
(father=Solomon BRUCE mother=Ellen REDMOND m=VA,Hardy-Co occ=laborer
d=04 Mar 1893 PA,Greene-Co,Waynesburg at Richhill Street cause=suffered heart disease 1 year
buried=PA,Greene-Co,Green-Mount-Cemetery".
So knowing what I do now I would have more precisely defind which death register I was talking about.
If you want to follow up on this, I can suggest 3 possible leads:
- try the funeral home records for record #007 01
- try the cemetery records for plot#7 grave#1 (recommend you try this first)
- try the PA,Green-Co vital statistics for book#7 page#1.
> We need some more evidence to sort this out.
I hope this info has helped
I would appreciate it if you could please reply to these questions:
---
> The Solomon Bruce who was freed by Abraham Vanmeter in Hardy Co.
> I can give you the citations for the wills and estate papers if you need them.
Yes please, I would appreciate that info.
---
> Barnet Redman predeceased Solomon Bruce.
Can you please give me Barnet's death info ?
---
Jane, you did not reply to the question about Jacob CLIFFORD &
I just wanted to check if it was because you forgot or because you don't know ?
---
Also I know you have researched the American Revolutionary war Veteran John REDMAN (FPOC).
Could you please tell me all the children (and spouses) you have for him ?
---
Thanks for sharing info
NICOLE
