> I have not seen the name Wolverton Redman ... in any Hardy Co. records.
I "think" the first REDMAN of this line to show up in VA,Hardy-Co
was his son Jesse Wolverton REDMAN m=Ruth PARKER (daughter of William).
She was supposed to be born in "Paris" but I don't know if this is in VA, PA, KY, NJ ???
They were supposed to have married in VA,Parkersburg.
I have tried unsuccessfuly to find out more about this couple.
I sometimes wonder if this Jesse had a previous marriage
because there is an almost 20 year gap between children.
However, there could be other children that I don't know about too.
The earliest date I have for a child of Jesse Wolverton REDMAN is
his son Jesse REDMAN=REDMOND born on 25 Dec 1806 in Virginia.
Are you aware that about 100 or so years ago there was a popular geneaolgy fad going on.
Many businesses started up then, claiming they would find your long, lost ancestors.
If they couldn't find them easily, the less scrupulous ones would just pick any family of the same name
(whether they were related or not), so that the could make money out of the genealogy business.
Often they would pick families of some note or fame to encourge more customers.
About this time one of the REDMAN ancestors was interested in genealogy & left some notes.
The problem is that though I have tried hard, I have been unable to verify ANYTHING from her notes.
So this next info is very questionable ... & I worry that her info may
have been supplied by one of those less professional genealogy businesses.
Her notes said this REDMAN family were descended from a RODMAN family that came from
the area of New-Jersey or Rhode-Island. It eventually linked back to a RODMAN immigrant
that went from WI,Barbados to RI. And his father had gone from England to Barbados.
But again, I have been unable to come up with any possible links to that RODMAN family.
That doesn't mean it's not there, but if is, the info is not easy to find.
> There were fpc Redman in other counties in VA.
I am limited by my old genealogy program in that I can only look up by surnames & not by location.
I have quite an extensive database (for example ... about 500 John REDMANs)
So it is easier for me to find REDMANs via their spouse's surname.
I record all REDMANs (or any spelling variation) that I can find.
I think I have almost all the REDMAN immigrants to the USA before 1800
(& a great majority of those prior to 1850).
I record all children of the immigrant ancestor, but afterward only the males
since the REDMAN females will not carry on the REDMAN name.
So to answer your question about other counties ...
My REDMAN research has grown & grown as I have had to widen my circle of investigration.
I am familiar with all the early REDMANs in other counties, but cannot look them up by area.
However if supplied with a REDMAN & spouse, then I can pull the info out of my database.
> The first Redman into Hardy Co. appeared between 1801 and 1806 (personal property tax lists).
> They were John, Richard, and Aaron Redman.
> All three came with famiies, and John and Richard were both eventually pensioners of the Rev War.
I am aware of all 3 of them. I believe you are referring to ...
#1 John REDMAN m=Sarah DAY(S)
#2 Richard REDMAN m=Rachael (unknown)
I believe #1 & #2 are related because #2 testified in a
pension application that he was present at the marriage of #1.
At Paul HEINEGG's webiste above, he tells us that #1 & #2 were descended from an English woman,
Jane REDMAN who had a mulatto child out of wedlock ... but he does not tell us their exact line
HEINEGG also mentions an Aaron REDMAN but there is not
enough info given to determine who that Aaron is.
As for #3 Aaron REDMAN, I am not sure which one you are referring to.
The one I know about who had a military pension was Aaron REDMAN
m=08 Jan 1784 VA,Loudoun-Co to (Agnes) Ann=Nancy CRAIG
(I can take his line back further).
Hoever I have no indication that he was a person of colour.
And then I have another Aaron REDMAN who was a FPOC
but I don't know of any military record for him.
This one had SMITHs living in his household.
If this is the one you mean, can you please give me more details
about the miliary record & also any spouse or children for him.
Also I don't have any children for #2 Richard ... so please let me know if you do.
The only child I know about for #1 John REDMAN is Nimrod.
There is a Nimrod REDMAN on the 1850 census married to a Fanny
but I don't know whether or not this is the same Nimrod RDMAN ... do you know?
Also please let me know if you have any other children for #1 John.
Thanks for sharing info
