There are many families of House, and from what I have seen many of them are very lightskinned. I place them in the free persons of color as well as among the mulattos. The House families who are white came from at least a few places: from Germany where the name Haus was changed to House; and those from England especially around Scotch-Irish. They have been known to have intermixed with African Americans and with Native Americans, and the ones I know come out of Cabarrus and Rowan Counties, N.C. Joseph
