Re: History Forgotten
In Response To: History Forgotten ()

Hello Jane,

Great Post and Tip!!! How true about forgotten or "unrecorded history". Although many/most records from the early years (1800's) to the mid to late 1900's will usually annotate somewhere on the record a designation of colored, Negro, black, etc., frequently no such designation is made.

I too have looked at many records and tried to "key" in on a field to speed up my searches. And with a better understanding of the community, time period and the History of both, gone back over those same records and discovered information on my AA Ancestors I had previously overlooked.

Guess that is what happens when one does not think "outside of the box" and only checks for AA related records in their research. Congratulations and Thanks for the heads-up.
