Re: Possible name changed?
In Response To: Re: Possible name changed? ()

Thanks everyone! Special thanks to Lee and Richard.
Ed and Ned sounded so close that I just knew there was a connection...nickname, I knew it! Then I had just found all that info on Harriett Rabb when Richard followed it up with more.
I have shared this infor with selected family members. Some are thrilled that we were among the "smart" freedmen to abolish the slave name while others don't want to believe it until "someone who knows what they are talking about tells me"... Oh well, I got a pot full of information for them.
On another note, doing my search I found out that my paternal grandparents were Mattie B Powell (who I had been told was Mertise Powell)and William Eugene Oliver ( whom I had known all my life as just Eugene. My father was his Jr) . He never ever used his first name and when asked he'd always say he didn't have a middle name. But his name was William Eugene Oliver, Sr. Some members of my family have stopped speaking to me because of this.
Seems like neither side of my family were who they "said" they were, hahahahahahah! No, seriously I'm thrilled to find the truth. It's there but a lot of times we (I) overlook it because I was centered on what I had been told(which was helpful) but not all true. When you least expect it, a break through will knock you in the head.
Thanks again for all your help.
