OK, I did a tally of "by" free blacks in Acc. Co. in 1820. There were a total of 25 (at least, possibly more but some portions of the pages are hard to read). Of those 3 (4 if Caty is a female name) are female. I found 11 of the males in the 1830 Acc. Co. Census. None of the females.

I'm afraid I rather a yankee and new to genealogy on slaves - none of my direct ancestors had any. Anyway, would those deeds (emancipation) be listed with land deeds?!

I was checking land deeds for one of these "by"folk and found nothing, but perhaps I didn't go back far enough.
