Another thought, one I meant to post you about earlier. I am far from certain that Bolard is from Boston Massachusetts. From the records I've seen, when the early French/Spanish came across someone from "America," that person would typically be described as coming from "America" or the name of the "State." I do not recall ever seeing reference solely to a city of the north with no further attribution. I think Bolard is from the Boston settlement of Vermillion Parish. No proof though. Nonetheless, it may point to where to look for him in earlier years. Regarding Marie Jeanne, if she was in Opelousas in 1771 (which I do not doubt - in fact I recall the census now), where was she in 1777 when the major Spanish census was conducted. She appears nowhere in that census.
