Below is what I believe to be the genealogy line for the famous jazz muician
Don REDMAN who was a saxaphonist, bandleader & composer.
In 1931 he was the only African American bandleader to have
his own radio show (which was sponsored by a soap maker).
.1 Hannah REDMAN n=abt.1820 VA (1850 Census for Black & Mulatto
Individuals of VA,Hardy-Co ed#23 d#991 h#1002 image#132 all n=VA)
..2 Sarah E. REDMAN
..2 John REDMAN
..2 Mary C. REDMAN
..2 Francis REDMAN
..2 Solomon REDMAN n=abt.1840 VA m=Ann (unknown)

m=Henrietta (unknown) occ=vocalist
...4 Donald Matthew REDMAN n=29 Jul 1900 WV,Piedmont occ=jazz musician

I believe that 2 other famous saxaphone musicians may be related to this line also ...
(Walter) Dewey REDMAN n=17 May 1931 &
his son Joshua REDMAN n=01 Feb 1969.
Like Don REDMAN above, Dewey REDMAN's father was supposedly born in WV,Piedmont
but Dewey hardly knew him. Dewey was raised in TX,Ft.Worth.
If anyone can fill in more details, please let me know.
