Greetings Everyone and Paul:

I'm collaborating with a military historian on the life of William L. Banks from Kentucky. His parents were free people of color. Recently, I sent her the link to " Free African Americans of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland and Delaware."

I pointed out that although the extensive research on the Banks family doesn't mention a connection to Kentucky, it's possible because of the state's geographical proximity, that there might be a family link.

William L. Banks was born in 1892 Jonestown Kentucky (near Lexington). I've researched his family in earlier census, but not as far back as the history mentioned on Free Africans.

My question simply is: Is there a link between the Banks of Virginia and the Banks in Kentucky. I don't want to make an historical stretch if it is not true.
