I am caucasian descedant of CRUMMEL, from what I can trace back originally to PA>OH>IN>MI as far as migrations. As far as the Crummel vs. Cromwell question, I can only offer some subjective recollection my mother had from one of her great-uncles talking about the family history. Apparently he said the name Crummel came from Cromwell, citing some link to the English. I have nothing thus far in my limited research to support this idea. The Crummel families I have researched seemed to cluster in areas where there were the PA DUTCH or German immigrants, tended to be protestant for those who went to church. Interesting question.
