Anyone doing research in Charleston, SC? I am trying to find guardianship records and manumission records for the period of 1820-1838 in Charleston. My ancestor shows up in the Free Negro Capitation Tax records as early as 1838, but I can't find any record of how he came to be a FPOC. Anyone had any luck in this area? I welcome any suggestions.
