FRANCOIS LEMELLE

Information regarding Francois Lemelle freeing his slave, Eleonore, and her two children can be found at:

http://www.lib.lsu.edu/special/findaid/4581.pdf

Scroll down to about halfway until you find the Lemelle part.

Here is the text that from that document; I am copying and pasting:

July 31, 1788. Opelousas. Francois Lemelle, Officer at the Post, appears before Nicolas Forstall to agree to grant freedom to his mulatto slave, Eleonore (who had been given to him by his mother), and to her two children, Victoire and Alexandre, at the moment of his death. Luc Hollier and Francois Brunet also sign the document.

Hope this helps!
