If you haven't found this yet, try looking for the family of Richard Wade Nowlin, who had a son named Armistead. Armistead is such an unusual name that I thought you might track this possibility. Richard Wade Nowlin b. 1778 was the son of Bryan Ward Nowlin I and his son Armistead was born 1811 in Pittsylvania Co. Virginia. Hope this helps.
