Potts, Jones, Williams, Chester Cty PA,
A hearty thanks to Rita who sent me these fascinating newspaper clippings on the life and death of various members of the Jones, Potts, Williams and related families of Chester county.
Rachel Jones Potts lived to be over 100, born 21 Feb 1801, and her father Jesse Jones, born abt 1774 according to census records, lived to the age of 112!
According to the news stories Rachel had 17 children, 54 grandchildren, and scores of great grands. She remembered seeing General Lafayette.
I haven’t had time to transcribe them yet – and am busy sorting them out and putting them into the extended family tree, but I did post what she sent in jpg form to my website.
This just goes to prove that newspapers are a very important source of information for us – and it pays to visit a local Historical society (or to have a wonderful volunteer like Rita, who did so unasked to make a visit )
My uncle Louis Williams, who will be 93 years old this year, was thrilled to get this information – and we told him we now have an explanation for his youthful appearance at 93 - seems like he comes from a pretty long lived bunch.
Other surnames mentioned include Smith, Wilson, Henson, Cummings, Johnson, Thompson, & Lewis.
