Dear Richard-
I want to again say THANK YOU for your postings. I learn something new everyday here. I especially liked the info on the Charles County Court Records
1689-1775. If ever you wanted to get the feel for what was going on with Free People of Color-
reading that site will give it to you. There was sure alot of mulatto/melatto making going on. Then
it seems that after childbirth(if you survived),
you got dragged into court, had your servitude extended, saw your infant either sold to slavery or indentured until the age of 31, and you may even have the honor of being lashed. Boy these folks were busy!!! I even learned a new term-
base born melatte. Seriously-thanks for the links.
Knowledge is valuable especially when you need to understand the times we survived. If this was the treatment for the FREE-what were they doing to the SLAVE.
Peace-
Jan
