The Nov 2001 Magazine of Va. Genealogy Vol. 39 number 4 (which I just received) contains and article entitled "Extant Entries from the Organge Co., Register of Free Negroes transcribed by Dorothy Boyd-Rush, Ph.D. (Dr. Rush also published a book of the Free Negro Register of Botetourt County a couple of years ago).
Orange County was formed from Spotsylvania County in 1734...by 1870 surrounded by Greene, Madison Culpepper and Spotsylvania counties.
The transcription begins with entry no. 48 13th Sept. 1837 and goes to entry 147 ending around 1851.
