i am currently researching some settlements of freed slaves in rural Pennsylvania. one of these was settled by the former slaves of Dr. Charles Everett of Charlottesville, VA (Belmont Plantation). the surnames of these folks were: Duke, Bell, Watson, Allen, Robertson, Lewis, and Meyers. they came to Pennsylvania in 1854 but by 1870 almost all were gone. does anyone know if any of these families returned to Virginia and re-established themselves?
