In Response To: FPC (MOSS/MORSE OF VA AND OHIO ()
Is it possible that the MOSS family you are researching is related to ELIZABETH MOSS? She is connected to a family Iím researching. Iíve pasted in below some possibly relevant information from a time line Iíve constructed for African-American STRANGE (surname) families in Virginia and Ohio. (For previous postings on these families, search the FPOC forum for the last several years.)
1817 Reuben Strange and wife Courtney were freed by Edward McGuire (probably son of Major Edward McGuire) in Winchester, Frederick Co., VA. Reubenís children include: Richard, who married Sarah; Courtney, who married Moses Leonard; and Reuben Jr., who married BETSEY.
Could Reuben Strange Jr. be the VA-born man who migrated to Warren Co., OH where he married Maria Smith of Louisiana in 1843? Could Reuben Jr.'s previous wife or fiancee BETSEY be the woman, ELIZABETH MOSS, with whom Reuben Strange applied for a marriage license in Warren Co., OH in 1843?
1843 In Warren Co., OH, Reuben Strange applied for license to marry ELIZABETH MOSS. In the same year Reuben Strange applied for a marriage license and married Maria Smith. (ELIZABETH MOSS married William Magee in 1846)
