Nancy Croxton/FPOC Essex County, Virginia
I am looking for more information regarding Nancy Croxton (b. abt. 1816) and Nancy Croxton (b. abt. 1840).
I found a Nancy Croxton on the Register of Free Blacks, 1810-1843 Essex County, Virginia,a multi-volumne article published by Tidewater Virginia Families: A Magazine of History and Genealogy. The entry indicated she was born free appearing by certificate of Thomas Harper in writing Colour Mulatto about 20 years of age Stature 5 feet with a dark mole on right cheek - Given under my hand as Clerk of said Court this 20th day of June 1836 James Roy Micou Jr.
My great-great grandmother was named Nancy Croxton as indicated on the 1892 Certificate of Marriage of my grandfather, John R. Robinson. She appears on the 1880 Census for Essex County with my great-great grandfather, Robert Robinson and their seven children.
I heard that my great-great grandmother was free born about 1840. I did not find her listed as a free person on Essex County Records after 1843. I believe there is a connection between the women.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.
