Another excellent non-fiction work on this topic is "The Sweeter the Juice: A Family Memoir in Black and White," by Shirlee Taylor Haizlip. It details her story of her successful search for her maternal aunt, who "passed" into the White world.

Following the reunion, the author then wrote, "Finding Grace: Two Sisters and the Search for Meaning Beyond the Color Line."

Though I have not read the sequel, I can highly recommend the first book. It was hard to put down. I think I finished it in under a day and a half!
