I have no direct info on your inquiry, but a comment. It would not surprise me one bit to discover that different names are sometimes attached to persons in the time frame you mention. It does not necessarily mean that Hebert or anyone else was wrong. It may mean that person used different names at different times. I have come across this several times. E.g., Marianne Castillon was also Marianne Duchesne. More often than not, one surname was yjr owner immediately prior to emancipation which was attached to the fpc once freed. The latter name was various things (parentage, use of name used by other freed family members, a preferred past owner, etc.) The trick is not to jump to conclusions when confronted with different surnames, but to try to decipher whether is two different persons or the same person with two different names.
