Your Solomon DAVIS, do you have him in the 1830 Census? Carter G. Woodson has him listed as between 55-100, with (17) persons in the household, and he is located in Gloucester Twp.,
Also listed are 1. Enoch DAVIS, 36-55 (4) in Household, he is in Bergen County, Bergen Twp., City of Hoboken. 2. Adam DAVIS, 36-55 (5) Willingsbourough Twp. Burlington Co., 3. Henry DAVIS 36-55 (2) Greenwich, Cumberland Co., 4. Manuel DAVIS, 36-55 (5) Lower Twp., Cape May Co.,
One would imagine with the State of New Jersey being one of the original 13 Colonies a search thru google or one of the other search engines for "History of New Jersey" would provide much information. With 17 folk in the household as of 1830 many other earlier records for the DAVIS' might be available at the County level.
BTW, New Jersey is listed as having 18,303 FPOC's in the 1830 Federal Census.
Hope this is of some help,
