The personal property tax lists for Southampton County include the following listed as "fn:"
Absolem Davis taxable from 1802 to 1814
Alex Davis and wife Viney on Wm Bryant's land from 1812 to 1817
and taxable on Bob Davis in 1814
Joseph Smith in 1813

No members of the Sykes family in Southampton County before 1820, but I did see a Charlotte Sykes in Prince George County in 1813.
