My brother-in-law is a Pettiford whose family originated in Oak Grove, Wake County, North Carolina. His branch migrated south to Tifton, GA and north to Philadelphia, PA and New Jersey.

Are you in touch with Mauri Pettiford? You can google her name and find her research and her posts. She has traced the family back to North Carolina in the early 1800's.

Paul Heinig also has quite a lot on the Pettifords on his site.
