Thanks you for your response to my query. My Richard P. Harleston was born October 20, 1822, and I found him in the Negro Capitation Tax books as early as 1938. He would have been about 16 years old. I have a fair amount of documentation of him throughout his adult years and did find his death record, October 25, 1892, (buried at Bethel Cemetery, Charleston). I was unable to find the grave, it is likely in the overgrown section of the cemetery or has lost its headstone. Regrettably the records for that cemetery are poor.
I welcome any suggestions you may have as to where I go from here. Thanks again for taking the time to respond.
